SUMMA is the first Research and Innovation Laboratory in Education for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The initiative was created in 2016 by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Fundación Chile, with the support of the Ministries of Education of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

SUMMA was created with the idea that the only way to move the boundaries of knowledge and promote innovation is by creating instances of collaboration and networking that benefit and join efforts, experiences, and visions of the different actors that make up the educational community (government, academia, schools, the private sector and civil society).

¿Qué hacemos?

We promote a model of mobilization of evidence composed of three dimensions that continuously feed on each other to promote the improvement of educational policies and practices inside the classroom: 1. Gathering of evidence through the development of cutting-edge research focused on common issues of the region. Experimentation of creative solutions in innovation laboratories, in collaboration with leading institutions of the seven member countries. 2. Systematization of evidence, through the collection, classification, and synthesis of knowledge and effective innovations that can be useful to address challenges at a national and global level. 3. The sharing and use of knowledge, through the spreading of policy reports, the development of guidelines for the implementation of effective interventions, collaborative work with ministries, agencies and key institutions, and the creation of meeting spaces between government authorities, academics, innovators, directors, teachers, members of civil society and entrepreneurs. We have the following initiatives: • Study of National Ecosystems of R&D&i in Education among the seven member countries • A platform of Effective Practices • Map of Educational Innovations

¿Qué buscamos?

To contribute to the improvement of the quality, equity and inclusion of educational systems in Latin America and the Caribbean, through the implementation of evidence and innovations that enhance the decision-making process of educational policies and practices.
