She holds a master’s degree and doctorate in education and is a professor of special education with a specialization in Learning Disorders at the University of Chile. She worked as an assistant within that academic unit and later became a member of the faculty. She has had an outstanding career as a teacher and researcher at the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE). She was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of that university and director of the Doctorate in Education. In her work she has addressed the field of emotions in the classroom, diversity in the construction of the world, pedagogical knowledge and interculturality. She has promoted the understanding and appreciation of diversity in all its expressions. In 2021 she received the National Prize in Educational Sciences.
