A COLLABORATIVE PATH TO WATER EFFICIENCY:
SUIZAGUA CHILE
In light of the need to move towards new models of water management, we have worked on the inclusion of private companies to the water problem at a territorial level in their areas of influence. We have applied a strategic view of the environment, with a “win-win” concept between the productive sector and the communities.
Suizagua Chile is a public-private alliance that leads the efficient use of water, developed within the framework of the “Water Unites us” project. Its scope of action extends through Colombia, Chile and Peru.
It is led by the cooperation of the Government of Switzerland and implemented in our country by Fundación Chile.
The model includes the measurement of the Water Footprint, action plans to reduce it and a collaborative work with the communities where the companies operate, which translates into a mutual benefit.
What is the Water Footprint?
The water footprint is a way of measuring the uses and environmental impacts related to water throughout the cycle of raw material extraction, processing, use and final disposal of products, and that depends both on the location and on the moment in which these uses occur.
It is a valuable tool to prioritize actions that reduce these impacts and improve water management in production processes and also for water management in the different regions.
IMPACTS
Projects carried out in the private sector since 2013
