Six companies were selected in a call that seeks for responses for challenges related to the recirculation of plastic

● The companies from Chile, Costa Rica, Finland, and Mexico, selected among over 50 applications from 15 countries, will have the opportunity to connect with leading companies in the production of plastic containers and packaging in Chile, members of the PCP, in addition to having visibility in the exchange instances with the Plastics Pact Global Network.

Six were the companies selected in the open innovation call “The Plastic Evolution” called by ChileGlobal Ventures and organized by The Chilean Plastics Pact (PCP) jointly with Fundación Chile, which sought to identify circular, sustainable, and groundbreaking solutions for containers and packing in Chile and Latin America.

Members of the Chilean Plastics Pact selected Companies from Chile, Costa Rica, Finland and Mexico from over 50 applications and 15 different countries. They evaluated each of the companies based on a competitive process and criteria that considered the impact level of the solutions; likelihood of adoption by users to promote plastics circularity; and alignment of the projects with the PCP goals.

Selected

  • ViveEko (Chile): Reverse vending machine solution that rewards users for recycling through a positive recycling experience.
  • iProximity by Wellington (New Zeland): A platform for geolocation of plastic containers that increases awareness and promotes recycling.
  • Wimao Technologies (Finland): Scalable modular technology to recycle mixed plastics through a self-adjusting system.
  • StatKnows (Chile): Solution that enables traceability of recyclable plastic using blockchain technology.
  • Green Bricks (Chile): Solution that encapsulates plastic and allows  creating construction materials.
  • Red Costarricense de Turismo Accesible + DONATAPA + Wheel the World (Costa Rica): Project that seeks building accessible beaches by raising awareness, collecting, and valuing plastic.

Antonia Biggs, Director of the Chilean Plastics Pact, said that “we are very satisfied with the number of applications received during the call as with the quality of the companies that applied and were selected. We are sure that solutions such as those brought forth by each of them will help responding to the challenges faced by companies in relation to the recycling of plastics, as well as to move from a linear economy to a circular one where there is an extension in the use of resources. We hope that this is only the beginning of a large portfolio of solutions.”

Maurizio Moschini, ChileGlobal Ventures Business Development Leader, added that “incorporating innovation from the startup ecosystem is critical for the Chilean Plastics Pact to achieve the goal of increasing the recyclability of plastic containers and packaging in Chile, and for the companies that are part of it up to be able to transform themselves. Through this initiative, the PCP companies build bridges for the ecosystem, in search of collaborations, co-developments, pilots, contracts, or alliances with the best entrepreneurs in LATAM and the world, so they can help them meet their sustainable development goals.”
