«We are witnessing a historic opportunity to give a strong impulse towards development. The promotion of a supplier industry can expand our activities to the rest of the world«. With those words Álvaro Fischer, Chairman at Fundación Chile, referred to the significance of implementing a World Class Supplier Program for the Chilean mining sector, in the meeting World Class Supplier Program: Progress, Challenges and Opportunities, held today in FCh.
Hernán Cheyre, Execute vice president at Corfo; Francisco Orrego Bauza, sub-secretary of Mining; Thomas Keller, CEO at Codelco and Peter Beaven, Base Metals Chairman at BHP Billiton, attended the meeting, in addition to 280 other relevant industry actor and 70 mining cluster’s suppliers.
The event provided the opportunity to present the progress of the World Class Suppliers’ Development Program, through the presentation of the study «Characterization of Mining Supplier Companies» developed by FCh in collaboration with BHP Billiton and Codelco; execute of an agreement according to which Anglo American –Mantos Blancos and Soquimich joined the program; and deliver the World Class Suppliers Program’s Implementation Manual to these new incorporated companies and release of the website www.desarrolloproveedores.cl, new platform to meet and obtain information from World Class Suppliers.
Finally, the there was a discussion forum Mining Suppliers: The Country’s Leverage Tool where Joaquín Villarino, Executive Chairman at Consejo Minero; Rolando Carmona, Chairman at Minnovex; Patricio Meller, expert economist in the copper issues, Conrad Von Igel , Director at Innova Chile Corfo and Álvaro Fischer, who acted as moderator.
