Chile-Finland Platform for Technological Development and Transfer

Through this collaborative alliance, the aim is to promote the global leadership of both countries in the development of innovative technological solutions and new businesses focused on sustainable mining, decarbonization and climate change adaptation, and the sustainability of relevant economic sectors.

Context

Why an alliance between Chile and Finland?

Today, the Government of Chile is engaged in the search for and development of initiatives and/or alliances that allow it to move forward and also learn from successful experiences that contribute to the country’s productive transformation and sustainable development.

Added to this is Finland’s interest, as one of the most developed countries in the world and a leader in innovation, in participating in global value chains associated with sustainability, given its experience in the development of clean technologies, circular economy, and sustainable management of natural resources.

In this context, both countries announced an alliance in August that seeks to:

  • Promote the global leadership of both countries in the development of innovative technological solutions. Promote new businesses focused on sustainable mining, decarbonization, climate change adaptation, and the sustainability of relevant economic sectors.

The alliance will be materialized through the initiative called the Chile-Finland Platform for Technological Development and Transfer, approved by the Council of the Production Development Corporation (Corfo). Its initial duration will be five years and it will be financed with up to US$20 million by Corfo. The project’s total budget, meanwhile, will exceed US$50 million thanks to the leveraging of resources from the Finnish ecosystem and other national and international funding sources.
