Context

Context

Today, as a society, we face new sustainability challenges as a result of the environmental crisis we are experiencing, which raises the urgent need to change the way we inhabit our planet. This therefore requires greater environmental awareness among citizens, community empowerment, and the socio-environmental enablement of industry in order to operate.

In this context, the Environmental Monitoring and Remediation initiative contributes to Chile’s progress toward sustainable development, enabling industry to coexist responsibly with communities and the environment by preventing future impacts through smart monitoring, remediating its environmental liabilities, and mitigating its contribution to global warming.

Objectives

Through this initiative, the aim is to:

  • Contribute to safe operations and the reduction of socio-environmental conflicts in these industries, with a special focus on mining.
  • Mobilize and coordinate the public sector, private sector, academia, and citizens to advance smart monitoring and environmental remediation.
  • Develop innovative solutions, tools, and standards, contributing to the development of public policies.
  • Coordinate strategies to manage environmental liabilities that pose a risk to the population and ecosystems.
  • Enable the development of blue carbon projects in Chile.
