People worked on the construction of Q2.
The initiative promoted by Teck seeks to transform people’s lives in the Tarapacá Region through various training alternatives, employment opportunities, and support for local suppliers.
Teck is a leading Canadian resources company focused on the responsible supply of essential metals for development and the global energy transition.
In Chile, it has operations at Quebrada Blanca, a copper mine located in the Tarapacá Region in northern Chile. This is the basis of its strategy and commitment to the social and economic development of the territory and to each of the people who live there, enabling them to expand their employment expectations and become relevant actors in strengthening a sustainable regional economy.
The construction of Teck’s Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 (QB2) project was an opportunity to promote the hiring of local people and services, contributing to both the social and economic development of the Tarapacá Region.
That is why, in 2019, the Elige Crecer program was created as a result of the alliance between Teck and Fundación Chile, focused on human capital development and labor intermediation, with the purpose of ensuring that people in the region received the tools needed to apply to QB2’s network of contractor companies.
Today, Elige Crecer has become a strategy based on the creation of public-private partnerships through four pillars:
People worked on the construction of Q2.
Training courses in construction, food services, and general service trades.
People trained by technical training organizations.
