The initiative seeks to promote a more competitive, efficient, and sustainable mining of the future through the development, co-design, and implementation of various Open Innovation methodologies, enabling mining companies to guide the future of their business in an agile and timely manner, as well as incorporate the best technologies.
Mining is at a decisive moment. The demands to operate sustainably, incorporate disruptive technologies, and respond to a competitive global market have brought to the table the challenges affecting the entire sector. Today, the question is no longer whether to innovate, but how to do so effectively and quickly.
Nearly five years after the launch of the “Digitalization for Mining 4.0” roadmap, developed in 2019 by Consejo Minero, Corporación Alta Ley, and Fundación Chile, it is valid to ask whether the challenges identified remain relevant or whether new ones have emerged.
During this time, the industry has not only reflected on these proposals, but has also made progress in their implementation. Notably, this includes the incorporation of 4.0 Technologies, which horizontally integrate the mining process to reduce variability, increase prediction and stability, and thereby improve decision-making.
Although progress has been made in automation, IT and OT infrastructure modernization, data management and integration, and cybersecurity, cross-cutting challenges still remain for more sustainable mining: minimizing impacts on the environment and communities; reducing emissions; managing waste; optimizing the use of energy and water; and promoting circular economy.
Expande seeks to become a strategic partner for enabling and implementing the best technological solutions that allow the mining industry to respond to its most pressing challenges. This is done through:
