Inclusive human development Workforce training

Alianza CCM-Eleva

The CCM-Eleva Alliance seeks to connect the productive sector — mining companies, suppliers, and trade associations — with the education and training sector — secondary and higher education institutions, and OTECs — with a focus on people, sector development, and the country’s development.

Context

How did the CCM Alliance emerge?

The CCM-Eleva Alliance was created in response to the existing human capital challenges faced by the mining industry. The Mining Skills Council (CCM), created in 2012, is Chile’s first “skills council” and has become a flagship initiative in human capital development through the generation of shared value, connecting the education and training sector with the mining industry. It has served as an example for several other industries that identify skills development as a critical variable for the development of their sector.

Then, in 2016, the Eleva Program was created as the first implementation experience of the Sectoral Qualifications Framework in Chile, seeking to promote the mining of the future and raise people’s capacities and opportunities through relevant, high-quality technical and vocational education. Eleva seeks to accelerate the closing of gaps in training institutions for work, improving their coordination with the productive sector.

At the end of 2020, the conclusion was reached to integrate both initiatives, given their clear synergies and complementarities, forging the CCM-Eleva Alliance with the purpose of energizing and guiding education-to-employment pathways in the mining sector.

Objectives

How do they seek to strengthen education-to-employment pathways in the mining sector?

From the CCM-Eleva Alliance, they seek to:

  • Provide information, standards, and tools in order to align the training of technicians and professionals with the labor demand of the mining sector.
  • Energize and guide education-to-employment pathways in mining.
  • Promote the mining of the future and raise people’s capacities and opportunities through relevant, high-quality training.
  • Accelerate the closing of gaps in training institutions for work, improving their coordination with the productive sector.
