Democratizing access to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Metropolitan Hub

The initiative seeks to democratize access to entrepreneurship and innovation services for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the region, through central infrastructure and support services for business growth.

Metropolitan Hub
Context

What does the implementation of a metropolitan entrepreneurship hub respond to?

In Chile, 26% of the working-age population self-identifies as entrepreneurial, with this sector generating around 28% of jobs (GEM, 2020). However, in recent years, the growth rate contributed to GDP by the Metropolitan Region has been below the national rate, at 1.9% compared to 2.1% nationally.

What is this due to?

Among the gaps identified during the design process of the Metropolitan Hub, it was found that there is:

  • Significant concentration of support resources in the eastern area of the region: coworking spaces, incubators, accelerators, and hubs. (Universidad del Desarrollo, 2023).
  • MiPymes in the Metropolitan Region face low productivity.
  • Difficulties in technological adoption.
  • Lack of access to training services.
  • Gaps in intermediate support services for entrepreneurship.

Under this scenario, and under the umbrella of the Government of Santiago, the Metropolitan Entrepreneurship Hub emerges to support entrepreneurs, focusing on promoting new economies and adapting MiPymes to future markets, with the aim of facilitating a space where ideas come to life, democratizing access to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Objectives

The Metropolitan Entrepreneurship Hub seeks to:

  • Service democratization: Access to entrepreneurship and innovation services for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the region.
  • Infrastructure: Provide access to central infrastructure and support services.
  • Ecosystem coordination: Coordinate and manage the ecosystem, connecting citizens with the available public-private offering.
  • Reduce gaps and barriers: eliminate the barriers that hinder project growth, enhancing productive, social, and economic development, and thereby strengthening the territorial capital of the Metropolitan Region.
Governance

Governance

The Metropolitan Hub is a project led by the Government of Santiago, approved by the Metropolitan Regional Council, and implemented by Fundación Chile.

The governance of the Metropolitan Hub is based on a collaborative and multilevel model, designed to ensure its long-term viability and sustainability. It integrates the active participation of key ecosystem actors, including public institutions — such as the Regional Government and municipalities — together with universities and research centers.
