The initiative seeks to support artisanal fishing organizations across Chile to accelerate the transition toward sustainable practices, contributing to the health of ocean ecosystems and providing greater social and economic security to coastal communities.
Currently in Chile, fishing coves are facing a major and complex environmental problem. More than 50% of fisheries are overexploited or collapsed. This intersects with social vulnerability, as 76% of fishing coves are located in rural areas with high levels of poverty and precarious conditions.
In this context, it is imperative to accelerate the transition toward more sustainable fishing, making it possible to conserve biological diversity and guarantee fishing activity for future generations.
